LINKS Youth Support Services offers a free breakfast to young people at San Remo Neighbourhood Centre on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday mornings. The purpose of the program is to ensure young people are consuming healthy breakfast and creating a habit of eating breakfast. Increasingly parents are busy with work commitments and don’t have the time or resources to ensure their children are eating nutritionally. This might manifest its self as no food in the fridge or not being home to encourage those healthy eating habits.
The program also provides a safe space for young people to talk with our youth workers, engage in conversations about current affairs, link with services within the community, and make new friends. Corrina, the LINKS Team Leader says, “Lately we have been talking to the young people who hang around smoking before school and getting them to come in and have a piece of toast or bowl or cereal instead of smoking cigarettes . Slowly that approach is working!”
Tracy, who has been volunteering her time at breakfast club, says “It’s really rewarding to know that these kids are having better, more productive, days because they’re sitting down and having breakfast.” LINKS is urgently looking for more volunteers to help with breakfast club out, if you’re available, call Corrina on 4390 7888 and get involved!
LINKS Youth Support Services would also like to thank our generous supporters Sundowner Bakery and Take Away in San Remo, McKennas Bakery in Charmhaven, The Orange Peel Fruit Market also in Charmhaven, Coles Lake Haven and Woolworths Lake Haven.
